Cast in the Fire

from Light Speed Ahead by Mike Dragon

lyrics

I'm still too green
to be picked from this tree,
with layers of hard, hard skin
you've yet to soften me,
a sour taste leaves a soured face,
and I didn't mean to let
that side of me show through,
once upon a dream
I dreamt that you'd come back to me,
and with startled sob
I stumbled from my sleep,
from that space you gleamed
and promised me, "eventually,"
oh, such a simple song
to simple hearts you sing.

Cast in the fire,
expected to wallow through
with my heart unglued,
rest for awhile,
heals of my feet are bruised
with no salve to soothe,
branded a liar,
broken, and severed through
roots that led to you...please hear me.

I'm still too shy
to make the most of this life,
though in ways it has helped me see
exactly what I need,
no more running 'round
grazing over empty ground,
just the simple words
to simple hearts you bring,
pen and pad in hand,
poetry at your command,
oh, such a simple song
with simple chords I sing.

Please hear me, please don't pass me by,
please hear me and heed my cry.
I'm still too green,
though ripening, I'm still too green,
though as the sun turns over and over
I can feel myself getting closer,
though still too blue
to be without you.

Cast in the fire,
expected to wallow through
with my heart unglued,
rest for awhile,
heals of my feet are bruised
with no salve to soothe,
branded a liar,
broken, and torn in two,
infinity uprooted
and cast in the fire.
